Today sees Northumbria University hold a 24-hour mixed netball match in aid of the Zambia IDEALS Project.

Organised by former Northumbria student and recently appointed Student President Josephine Pointon, the event is expected to raise over £1,000 for the  Project.

Josie, who is flying out to Zambia this Sunday to take part in the Project, is confident of reaching the fundraising target:

“I’ve been really pleased with the response I have received. Obviously as the match is 24 hours I am asking for a lot of commitment but everyone who is  involved seems excited by the challenge.”

The match commenced at 7am this morning and involves two teams of 13 core players with the two teams named after two of the Zambian placements – Fountain of Hope and Kalingalinga.

Each core player has raised a total of £30 each which will go towards the overall fundraising target.

To mark the quarter and three-quarter stage of the game a competition will be held in which the teams can win bonus points.

There will be a drop-in session between 12pm & 10pm for people wanting to take part.

Players from Northumbria’s Super League team will feature as well as players from local clubs and members of staff from Team Northumbria.

T-shirts can be purchased at the event and there will be a raffle taking place with various prizes to be won including complimentary tickets to a Durham cricket match.

Please come down and show your support for the Zambia IDEALS Project, it's going to be a tough challenge!
