Steutel's Bank Job

Team Northumbria got their busy weekend of BUCS fixtures off to a flying start as they comfortably beat London South Bank University 78-68.

TN were the underdogs going into the clash with London winning their premier south division comfortably and TN only managing to finish fourth.

But Marc Steutel’s stars showed they were up for the challenge and completely out-passed, out-dribbled and out-shot the southern giants.

“We were absolutely fantastic”, Steutel said, “We gave them a real shock and played great as a team.”

TN started the game off brightly with young hoop stars Toby Hutton and Justin Hitchman exchanging passes and plays with ease to fire Steutel’s side into a dominating lead.

“Justin played well but so did all the players,” he added. “It was an extremely good team effort and the guys have to be the ones to take credit for a well deserved victory.”

TN’s hoops stars made sure every possession they had counted. And this was epitomised by the always reliable Siman Stewart whose performances this season in the National League have been the foundation for this campaign’s success.

Steutel said he was delighted with his players’ hard work and determination going into this weekend’s clashes.

And Saturday sees a mouth watering North East derby in the Final Fours with TN up against star-studded Durham and ex-Northumbria duo Chris Pearce and Liam O’Mahoney.

Northumbria women also set up a Final Fours clash against Durham after beating London South Bank 92-70.
