The IDEALS team edged ever closer to their group fundraising target of £14,000 after raising just under £300 via bag packing.

The 2012 team members travelled to Sainsbury’s in Gosforth yesterday and were given a very positive response from the local shoppers.

Operating during the store’s opening times of 10am - 4pm the Northumbria students assisted customers with their bag packing.

Sports Coach and IDEALS Team Member Tom Bodley was overwhelmed with the support shown by the local community,

“We set ourselves a target of £200 and it was really great to see so many people contribute. The locals were keen to learn about the project which is great as that is what we are trying to do- raise awareness.”

The Northumbria University IDEALS team would like to thank all of the staff and customers at Sainsbury’s, Gosforth for their kind contributions.

With less than two weeks to go until the first group of student’s head off to Africa the team are entering the final stages of fundraising which continues today in the form of a car wash.

The car wash will be held in the car park next to the University Business School commencing at 8am.
